The humidity level, if manually controlled by a humidistat, is maintained by activation of the humidifier by the air furnace whenever humidity drops below the chosen level. AprilAire also offers water mineral removal; flushing down a drain minerals appearing in the water that isn't filtered by the humidifier itself. Proper humidification prevents shrinkage of wood in the frames around doors and windows, cracks in walls and ceilings, plant damage, excessive wear of carpets and fabric, and nasal and respiratory irritation.
